WICKLOW
Vs
LIMERICK COUNTY
Two-goal blasts at various stages of the U15 SFAI Inter League Trophy Quarter Final saw Limerick advance to the final four.
An early double set the Shannonsiders up for the victory on Monday afternoon on the all-weather at Travers Insurance Park in Arklow, before two goals either side of half time secured their passage into the Semi Finals.
The home side were giving 12-month away to their opponents. But experiences like this will stand to them for the challenges ahead.
The visitor hit the front in the seventh minute. A left wing corner dropped in the box. It led to a scramble with Ali Sullivan reacting to drive in low from ten yards.
The striker then showed pace in the 11th minute to race away from the home defence and slot in with a low finish.
But Wicklow pulled one back in the 21st minute.
Sam Conyard’s corner was cleared. But Kale Conyard followed up with a 22-yard shot. The ball came to Conor Shevlin, He controlled and then turned to fire in a 14-yard low half volley.
The fourth score was always going to be crucial to the final outcome.
It went Limerick’s way in the last seconds of the period as substitute Donagh Horgan’s long range strike found the net.
The second half was just 90 seconds old when Donagh Horgan made it 4-1 with another attempt from distance.
They added to their tally on the 66th minute when defender William Ryan
bundled over the line off a free kick.
Just a minute later, Eoin O’Connell wrapped up matters with a fine solo run and finish after breaking clear off the right wing.
