U12 SFAI INTER LEAGUE MATCH REPORT
WICKLOW 1 WEXFORD 4
Three second half scores saw Wexford move top of Group B of the U12 SFAI Inter League.
But they had to come from behind against Wicklow at Travers Insurances Park in Arklow on Sunday evening before making it two wins from as many games in the competition.
The away outfit had previously beaten Carlow 3-0 in Curracloe last November while Wicklow had succumbed 4-1 away to Kilkenny at the same time.
The hosts broke the deadlock after just eight minutes.
Lukas Kavanagh ghosted in off the left wing and struck a fantastic shot from the edge of the box to the top right corner of the net.
But the Slaneysiders equalised in style seven minutes before the interval.
From 35-yards wide right, Oisin White hit a quiet brilliant shot to the net – receiving the applause from the attending crowd that it deserved.
Utilising their squad rotation, the Purple and Gold’s had much the better of the second half exchanges.
They went ahead in the 42nd minute. A clearance came to Neil Levingston Douglas 20-yards out. He unleashed a superb half volleyed shot through a crowd of players to the bottom left corner of the net.
They notched a third just four minutes later when Harry St. Ledger made the most of a defensive mix-up to fire to the net.
The visitors wrapped up the three points in the 57th minute. St. Ledger linked with Leo Stenning who angled a right-footed finish back across goal to the left corner on the run.
Just before the final whistle, the home team went close to a consolation. But Ben Moran’s effort from six yards came back off the post.
Wexford will now go to Kilkenny looking to secure top spot in the section while Wicklow will complete the Group with an away trip to Carlow.
