NEC 1 WDSL U12 Yellow  0

Wicklow U12 (Yellow) made the long journey to MDL Navan to take on NEC. 

NEC started the better, playing with a strong wind and were quick to pin Wicklow back. Wicklow conceded a free five minutes in, which brought a strong save from Finley Clare. Wicklow battled hard and worked their opening effort after some great football down the left involving Aidan Cronin Kenny and Rex Verveen, Rex’s shot went agonisingly wide of the post. NEC quickly took control of the game but Wicklow defended bravely and brilliantly.  Unfortunately NEC took the lead on the 23rd min, a low powerful shot was saved by Finley the Wicklow keeper as too was the rebound, then Shane Lynch cleared brilliantly off the line but a follow up shot somehow evaded the Wicklow defence to nestle in the bottom corner. NEC led 1 0 at the half. 

Second half saw Wicklow take a much stronger foot hold in the game and created a few chances through Rex and Fionn Fitzgerald. NEC too had their chances bringing two great saves from Domhnall Jennings. Wicklow continued to defend brilliantly and fought hard in the middle but the elusive equaliser just wouldn’t come. Captain for the day was Ronan Merrigan and he put in a captain’s performance with monster tackles and driving his team on through out. Shane Lynch, Patrick Doyle, Eoin Ryan and Harry Mernagh were fantastic today. Zack Gough worked hard, Rian Cahallahan and Harry Duffy made a difference when introduced. 

Final score NEC 1 Wicklow 0. Well done to all the players for a brave effort, to the managers for their time and commitment and to the parents for their continued support.
